DKHAC's Learn to Swim program is designed to guide its participants along the aquatic pathway from water familiarisation to water confidence. We focus on the core aquatic skills and on developing an understanding of safety in and around the water.

Discovery

Discovery

Discovery is designed for children over 4 years old who are confident and independent in the water, with no exposure to deep water without flotation. In small classes of up to 4 students, the program introduces foundational swimming, water safety, and survival skills in a supportive environment.

Through fun and safe activities, children learn to build trust and independence while developing breathing, floating, and movement skills. At this level, students practice safe entry and exit, getting their face wet, floating and recovering without an aid, pushing and gliding, and demonstrating a torpedo.

Swim Prep Core

Swim Prep Core

Swim-Prep Core is designed for up to 5 students in the 25m pool, with some exposure to out-of-depth water. It builds on basic swimming skills, water safety, and survival techniques while introducing basic rescue skills. The focus is on preparing children for independent swimming lessons.

At this level, students practice independent floating and recovery, effective kicking on both front and back, basic freestyle and backstroke, and following instructions in a class setting.

Swim Prep Skills

Swim Prep Skills

Swim-Prep Skills is designed for up to 5 students in the 25m pool, with some exposure to out-of-depth water. The program focuses on improving body position and breathing techniques, while introducing advanced survival skills such as sculling and survival backstroke.

Students will further develop their freestyle and backstroke techniques, emphasising side breathing and proper body positioning.

Swim-1

Swim-1

Swim-1 is a program for up to 5 students in the 25m pool, with some exposure to out-of-depth water. It focuses on establishing the foundation for freestyle and backstroke while emphasising water balance, sculling, and movement through water.

Swim-1 reinforces water safety and survival skills. At this level, students work on swimming 12.5m of freestyle with correct breathing, 12.5m of backstroke, and demonstrating kicks for breaststroke, survival backstroke, and dolphin kick.

Swim-2

Swim-2

Swim-2 is designed for up to 6 students in the 25m pool, with some exposure to deeper water throughout the term. This level focuses on further developing freestyle and backstroke techniques to cover longer distances, while introducing full survival strokes as a foundation for Swim-3.

Water safety and survival skills are reinforced, with additional emphasis on sculling and non-stroke techniques. Swim-2 students work on swimming 25m of freestyle and backstroke with proper technique, demonstrating breaststroke and survival backstroke, and are introduced to the butterfly stroke.

Swim-3

Swim-3

Swim-3 is held in deep water, with students required to swim 25m unaided. Classes of up to 8 students are conducted in the Dive Pool or 50m pool. This level focuses on extending distances for freestyle and backstroke, while introducing complete lifesaving survival strokes. Students gain a deeper understanding of operating safely in deep water.

Competitive swimming skills such as dives, turns, and basic survival techniques are also introduced. Students work on performing a deep water dive, swimming 50m of freestyle and backstroke with proper technique, 25m of breaststroke, various survival strokes, a tumble turn, butterfly, and a safety sequence involving a jump, treading water/sculling for 5 minutes, and recovering to the edge.
