School aged Learn to Swim Classes

Classes for children aged from 4 years old are held Monday to Friday 3.30–6 pm and Saturday 8.15–11.15 am.

Children progress at their own pace through the seven levels of the program. We know that stroke development is important, but our focus is very much on water safety and survival skills to help children be safe in and around water.

View more information about our program levels.

Our program includes games to ensure the students enjoy their aquatic experience.

  • Classes are held in pools warmed up to 32 degrees with different water depths so all ages and abilities can feel safe.

  • Your child will progress based on the skills they develop and this can happen at any time.

  • There is easy and free parking.

Before enrolling in term swimming lessons, all children 4 years and above new to the centre must have a free assessment to grade them at the appropriate level. The assessment takes approximately 10 minutes and appointments can be made by contacting our customer service desk on 03 6222 6999.

Enrolments are open all year round.  Call 6222 6999 to check availability.

Supervision requirements

All children attending Learn to Swim lessons at the Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre must be supervised by a responsible adult aged over 16. This includes before, during and after their lesson. Children will not be accepted into their lesson if an adult is not present. If you wish to stay and play after a lesson, all children 5 and under must be accompanied in the water by an adult.”

Students also learn to participate in a range of water-based recreation, fitness and sporting activities. The younger children in the program focus on development of foundation skills with older children building on endurance.

Instructors are in the water until Active 4. From Active 4, instructors teach from the side of the pool.
