The Doone Kennedy Hobart Aquatic Centre Swim and Aquatic Program welcomes interest from swim teachers who want to join our friendly and experienced team.

Our classes include:

  • Infants classes for children between 6 months and 4 years old

  • After-school classes on Monday to Friday afternoons / Saturday mornings

  • Schools program from Monday to Friday during school hours

  • Adults classes

  • NDIS Special Needs classes throughout the week


To be part of our dynamic Learn to Swim teaching team we require the following qualifications:

  • Current teacher of swimming qualifications
    • SISCAQU002       Perform basic water rescues
    • SISCAQU008       Instruct water familiarisation, buoyancy and mobility skills
    • SISCAQU009       Instruct water safety and survival skills
    • SISCAQU010       Instruct swimming strokes
  • Current CPR qualification (renewed within the last 12 months)

  • National Police Check

  • Registration to Work with Vulnerable People

Want to be a Lifeguard?

The Doone Kennedy Aquatic Centre Lifeguards are an integral part of ensuring safety in the Centre for all.  The primary role of our Lifeguards is to undertake life guarding duties of all pools but also includes:

  • Supervising the public in use of the aquatic facilities to ensure maximum safety and enjoyment for members, guests and user groups and to respond to customer queries re the use of the aquatic facilities.

  • Pool rescue and/or provision of first aid attention when required.

  • Investigating and responding to any customer complaints to identify and address problems or potential problems which may affect the efficient operation of the Centre.

  • Performing water testing and maintaining accurate records in order to monitor correct levels of chemical dosing, water purification and temperature controls.

  • Setting up/packing up equipment for programs or events within the Centre.

  • General cleaning and maintenance of the aquatic facilities.

  • Assisting in the implementation of the Centre’s emergency management plan in the event of any accidents, incident or other situation that require enactment of the plan.

If this sounds like something you would enjoy, you do need the following qualifications:

  1. Current Pool Lifeguard Certificate (Issues by Royal Life Saving Society) coupled with specialist knowledge in Life Saving and First Aid, Basic Work Health and Safety principles.

  2. Understanding of, or ability to acquire, water purification standards in accordance with the legislative requirement.

  3. A standard of health, fitness and physical capability sufficient to meet the requirements of the role.

  4. Ability to demonstrate time management skills to manage own workload in a customer-focused environment.

  5. Ability to work within established procedures, techniques and/or practices, take instruction and work with a minimum of supervision.

  6. Well-developed communication and customer service skills and an ability to provide guidance to team members.

  7. Current Drivers Licence, Working With Children and Police Check.
