DKHAC's Learn to Swim program is designed to guide its participants along the aquatic pathway from water familiarisation to water confidence. We focus on the core aquatic skills and on developing an understanding of safety in and around the water.
For ages 6 months to 2 years-A progressive water‑confidence program, starting with gentle, supported introduction to the water & evolving into guided independence. Parents learn essential aquatic safety skills while children build comfort, confidence, & early abilities like floating, kicking, and paddling.
Skills Taught at this level:
Parent/ Guardian Education
Supported Safe Entry/ Exits
Supported Blowing Bubbles
Supported Floats on Front and Back
Supported Kicking Legs and Arms
Supported Gliding on Front and Back
Supported Submersion
Safe Entry/ Exits
Active Independence / Confidence
Blowing Bubbles
Floating on Front and Back
Kicking Legs and Basic Arms
Gliding on Front and Back
Submersions
For ages 3 – 4 years-fostering independence in young swimmers through teacher-guided aquatic skill development, water safety awareness and active parental encouragement within the water.
Independent Safe Entry/ Exits
Independent Blowing Bubbles
Independent Floating on Front and Back
Independent Kicking Legs and Arms
Independent Gliding on Front and Back
Independent Submersions
At this level, children are working towards developing key water safety and swimming skills, learning to enter and exit safely, float, glide, kick, and move through the water, submerge and exhale underwater and recognise water hazards and helpers. This is the first level where children participate independently.
Water Hazards / Personal Safety
Safe Entry / Exits
Kicking Legs
Basic Submersion
At this level, children are working towards building independence and safety awareness. Learning to identify aquatic dangers, enter and exit the water safely, float and rotate using buoyant aids, tread water, fit a lifejacket, glide with coordinated kicking, swimming 5m, retrieve objects underwater and understand how to get help in an emergency.
Floating on Front/ Back with Recovery
Fitting a Lifejacket
Treading Water (with aid)
5 Metres Basic Freestyle
5 Metres Basic Backstroke
Basic Water Rescue
At this level, children are working towards strengthening their water safety & swimming skills. Practicing safe behaviour around aquatic environments, recovering from a simulated fall-in, floating and treading water for 30 seconds, swimming 10m freestyle and 5m backstroke, navigating underwater obstacles and learning how to respond in an emergency.
Fall in Entry (and Recover)
Treading Water (without aid)
10 Metres Freestyle (with Breathing)
10 Metres Basic Backstroke
5 Metres Survival Backstroke
Learn Basic Survival Sequence
At this level, children are working towards confidently swimming in deeper water. Practicing safe step-in entries, floating and rotating, swimming 15m freestyle, 15m backstroke and 10m survival strokes, performing a surface dive to retrieve objects, and learning how to recognise and respond to aquatic emergencies using talk rescue techniques.

15 Metres Freestyle
15 Metres Backstroke
10 Metres Survival Backstroke
10 Metres Breaststroke Kick
Surface Dives
Talk Rescues
At this level, children are working towards mastering key survival and swimming skills. Practicing compact jumps, sculling in both directions, floating and treading water with a lifejacket, swimming multiple strokes over longer distances (15-25m), recognising and responding to emergencies and performing a full survival sequence using a buoyant aid.

Reach Rescues
At this level, children are working towards advanced water safety and swimming skills. Practicing stride entries, floating and treading water for one minute, swimming multiple strokes over longer distances (25m – 50m), performing surface dives and underwater retrievals, using throw rescue techniques, and completing a full survival sequence without a buoyant aid.
